Film Genre/Poster and Target Audience

Children's film is a film genre that contains children or relates to them in the context of the family, however, the major genres are action, adventure, fantasy, musical and comedy within children's film genre that the United States and Europe begin to make films within the genre in the 1930s which was the 20th century. For example, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was debut children's animated film in 1937 when Walt Disney Company has classic animated films before World War 2 saw the release of 3 significant families in the United States of America.  

 

Target Audience of children's film is aimed for children whose aged 3-12 years of age whose interesting in exciting and thrilling movies within major film genres which are excited, thrilled and fun with different types of colours, animated and live action characters and styles on the scenes or movie poster that the filmmakers were making movies. Some people can watch movies within genre called Children's and Family films aimed for people with all ages, however, children's and family films are rated U stands for Universal means this rating for all ages, but this rating has very mild language, violence, sex and horror, and PG stands for Parental Guidance aimed for children whose age 7 and over but PG is a mild rating than U because this rating contains mild language, violence and sex within genres. For example, Action films have mild violence and bad language and Romantic films have mild sex and some nudity.  

 

The film poster is a poster used to promote and advertise a film to persuade audiences to see the film. Studios often print several posters that vary in different sizes, colours, font, and content for various and international markets. These film posters contain an image with text in typography fonts and styles that studios were print posters in A3 or A4 paper. In the 1980s which was in the 20th century, illustrations instead of images were far more common and typography fonts and text on film posters usually contains film title in large typography fonts and often the names of main actors/actress. It also includes a tagline of the film and the name of the director names of characters and the release date. Film Posters can be displayed inside cinemas and elsewhere in the public and in stores such as bus stops and billboards. The same images appear in the film exhibitor's press book and may also be used on sources such as websites, DVD, flyers and advertisements in newspapers and magazine. History of the film posters is the debut film poster was on an illustration by Marcellin Auzolle to promote the showing of the Lumber Brothers film L'Arroseur arose which was a French film at Grand Cafe Paris on 26th December 1895 which was in the 19th century which was on Boxing Day. Originally, film posters were produced for the exclusive use by the theatres exhibiting in the film the poster was created for and were required to be returned to the distributor after the film left the theater.

Movie Poster Analysis

Background of Inside Out poster has bright and exciting coloured circles that match to these characters of the film; for example: Joy has a yellow code to shows her emotional feelings is happy for the main character is Riley with her memories; in different sizes which are overlapped on navy blue plain background that matches to the characters to shows the poster has thrilling to make children feel happy and joyful about the movie.

 

Characters of the film doing emotional feelings, for example, Joy has blue hair and lime dress with happy emotional feeling to shows the characters how they are feeling during the film. Typography of the film title has capital letters and modernist white font suggests that a film poster is about the main character's have different types of emotional feeling on her head to makes the audience feels thrilling about watching the film which is very interesting.

 

A tagline of the film "Meet the little voices inside your head" with strong typography font style called capital letters suggests that your head has different emotional feelings, for example: It has 5 major feelings are Joy, Sadness, Fear, Disgust and Anger inside Riley's head and how the main character feels about her lives. The release date was "June 19" suggests that the film was released in the cinemas so the audiences persuade to watch the film at the cinemas on the actual date.

Background of Shark Tale has an aquarium with details like aqua buildings and plants to shows the poster that matches to the characters which are adventurous and aquarist film.

The bright-coloured fish is sitting on the shark as the main character to shows the characters are happier and joyful to make children feel excited about the film about aquarium life with adventurous scenes of the film.

 

Title of the film has yellow sans-serif font with red outline of the title with shark-shaped "h" letter and it has wavy typography style font suggests that a title has exciting and aquarium life with the adventure genre while the title is swimming like a fish.

 

The cast of the film has bold red texts with capital letters on the Hollywood cast board with small round lights around the shape to shows the poster has actors and actresses of the film while they are playing the characters. It has small fonts to show the cinemas details such as logos of the film company are DreamWorks and cast of the film. 

 

A tagline of the film poster "A new school's gonna rule" suggests that this film is thrilling and exciting about adventurous life that audiences will like this film.

Background of Lego Batman Movie has yellow buildings of Batman town like a shadow with Lego-brick floor like Duplo suggests that the background is very bright and toy-based patterns to make children interesting about Lego as their favourite toy feels thrilling about the adventurous life within superhero comic.

 

Characters from DC Comics are Lego figures are running and flying that Superman flies on the yellow sky suggests that these characters to shows the actions, techniques and strong moves that lots of figures of the film like the universe and adventurous life.  

 

Title of the film has bat-shaped style with built black Lego bricks of the bat that matches the superhero called Batman and typography of the title has capital letters and white-coloured Lego-styled font to make this title with leg patterns effectively that matches to children's toy bricks to makes the audience feels exciting and thrilling about the film which is very interesting. 

 

A tagline of the film "Always be yourself unless you can be a Batman." in black texts with capital letters suggests that your interest to be a dark superhero has strong actions and techniques. 

 

The release date "February 10" on this poster suggests that the film will be released in the cinemas to shows the audience can watch the film on the actual date.

This main character is looking the fishbowl is wobbling on the red-box while a goldfish jumps out of the fishbowl with water is very effectively aqua detail that a goldfish feels a bit frightened. 

 

Title of the film has typography is sans-serif with capital letters with different sizes that match to Dr.Seuss book suggest that the title is very modernist that children will like this film that based in Dr.Seuss book. However, the title has very bright coloured text is white to make it stand out of the blue background that matches the character.   

 

Small font is above the title "Dr.Seuss" with fancy typography font and white coloured text to shows the poster has an author of the book. However, the label has typography font style is Stencil with strong typography font style is capital letters on outline rectangle square inside the small texts "Cats and Hats Only!" suggests that a tagline have important rules for the cats whose wearing hats and it makes children feel interesting about the fancy characters in the film.

of Mojo and dark buildings with shades of purple shadows in black plain, background suggests that the background has night scene during bedtime so the world can be saved from these evil villains. However, a large image of Mojo as a villain with a velvety purple cloak and a white and purple helmet to shows the villain is an absolute evil.   

 

Characters are Buttercup, Blossom and Bubbles are doing anger emotions to shows the characters have strong actions and movements to rescue people from evil villains with shadows of the persons on the purple floor. For example; Blossom is a very strong hero with an evil smile to show her actions and strengths to rescuing people so the town can be safe.   

 

Title of the film has science fiction and modernist typography font with girly colour pink and bold font with shiny detail  and big and bold outline with 3 stars to make it stand out on the purple background as TV show programme and subtitle "Movie" has yellow science fiction and modernist font with black outline to makes the subtitle stand out within TV show programme logo. This tagline above of the poster "Saving the world before bedtime!" with pink with light detail in the middle of the font with bold and capital letters suggests that this phrase can save the world while characters were rescuing the people from evil villains so the town can be safe before night-time.  

 

Small fonts are coming soon in cinemas, a film company called Warner Bros and Cartoon Network logo to shows the poster belongs to the companies. 

 

Limited Edition Cereals Examples

Bratz Rock Angelz cereal was a 2005 limited edition

breakfast cereal from Kellogg's. It similar to Krave with velvety chocolate inside crispy wholegrain pillows suggests that this cereal is very delightful while a pillow is open half to show the inside of the wholegrain pillow with chocolate.  

 

The target audience of Bratz Rock Angelz cereal was aimed for girls who aged 8-11 years of age or whose interesting our favourite fashion doll.

 

Background of the cereal box has half white with thin patterns on the top and red with the Gothic black bold outline on the bottom of the cereal box to shows the background is very Gothic and punk that matches to the film. 

 

Cloe is a Gothic and punk character has red leather boots and hats with snake patterns, black jacket and jeans and her hair are original blonde with black streaks suggests that the character is a most gothic and rockstar with different styles.

Disney Frozen cereal was a 2016 limited edition breakfast cereal from Kellogg's. It similar to Rice Krispies Multigrain Shapes, it has different shapes are stars and circles that match the characters from the film with delicious flavour is vanilla which is the most popular flavour.  

 

The target audience of Disney Frozen cereal was aimed for girls aged 3-11 years of age or whose interesting our favourite film. 

 

Background of the cereal box has sparkling light blue with sparkling white detail like unicorn background suggests that this cereal box can be dazzled and thrilling about winter theme has bright snow details that children will like this style of the background. 

 

The characters of the film are Elsa and Anna, however, these characters are close up to the image of the cereal to make these characters clearer which is zoomed in so people can see these characters closely.

Disney Pixar Monsters Inc cereal was a 2001 limited edition breakfast cereal from Nestle. It has printed pictures on these squares suggests that the cereal have excellent styles on each square which the children will like these designs on the cereal.  

 

The target audience of Monsters Inc cereal was aimed for children who aged 3-10 years of age or whose interesting Monsters Inc film.  

 

This character is Boo wearing a purple monster costume with details like fish scales and teeth as a hood of the costume. This image of the cereal has close-up to makes Boo looks clearer by zooming in the character.

It has advertising campaign says "In a cinema near you" suggests that a campaign persuade children to see a film called Monsters Inc and also it has 2 limited edition breakfast kinds of cereal are Sulley and Mike to buy this product at the supermarket. 

This is a Frozen Limited Edition breakfast cereal video to tell about the details of the front of the box with different designs and on the reverse of the breakfast cereal, it has different creative activities on each cereal box.

Character Themed Celebration Cakes Examples

Despicable Me 3 is a 2017 celebration cake from Lightbody. On the packaging, the background has lots of Minions whose wearing special eyewear and blue dungarees characters which are overlapped and doing their actions on inside and outside of the box to make it creative and children will like this design on the packaging.    

 

The sign on the packaging said  "No artificial colours and flavours" suggests that the packaging contains no artificial colours and flavours which is a product is natural.

The Good Dinosaur is a 2015 celebration cake from Lightbody. On the packaging, the background has a bright sky with blue coast on each face on the box and top of the packaging has bright green grass to make the packaging bright an colourful. It has characters of the film which is very native and typography of the film title has sans-serif font with capital letters and underline on "The" word where the title start to the beginning. 

 

The sign on the packaging said "No artificial colours and flavour" suggests that the packaging contains no artificial and flavours which is a product is natural and it has details of the product.

It has characters are Elsa and Anna has the side of the box with a thick blue border with designs to make the box pretty that matches to the theme, 

Happy Meal Promotions

Is a kids' meal sold at the fast-food restaurant chain McDonald's since June 1979 which was in the 20th century and A small toy is included with the food, both which are usually contained in a red box with a yellow smiley face and the McDonald's logo. 

In the early 1980s which is a debut promotion was Star Trek meal, to promote Star Trek: The Motion Picture in December 1979. The packaging used for Star Trek Meal consisted of various images and games related to the film that released in cinemas and the target audience of the Happy Meal is aged 3-11 years of age because packaging of the Happy Meal contains images of the film plus a toy is included inside the box which is a very special item. 

 

In 1982, McDonald's recalled Happy Meal toys are not suitable for children younger than 3 years old because toys contain small parts and it can be dangerous and choked to babies and toddlers. In 1992, McDonald's removed their range of Happy Meal toys for the Batman Returns, after complaints from the parent that the film was not suitable for children because this film is rated 15 is aimed for the audience whose age 15 and over.  

 

In 2019, our latest Happy Meal have thrilling and exciting promotions within Lego Movie 2 that released in the cinemas and the details of the background have galaxy and colourful sky with bright rainbow and white stripes to make the background excited and thrilling that children will like this design of the background and the floor has white lego brick carpet to make the background creative and excited about Lego film within the franchise that children will like this design of the background. On the box, it has exciting characters are running into the universe and the same background is galaxy background that matches the same. The tagline of the box "Team Awesome!" suggests that the characters are excellent and thrilling can be awesome with a good pleasant adventure to makes the audience feels happy and joyful about the film.

My Film and Promotions Ideas

My ideas are for my film and promotions of my topic called Children's Film are I will insert 2D and 3D characters (computer animated) on my own poster and promotions on packaging to create my own products and film poster by illustrating my details and typography to persuade the audiences to buy the products or watch the film at the cinemas. 

 

Target Audience is aimed for people with all ages within film rating is U and some audiences are aimed for children whose aged 3-11 years of age because this film it contains thrilling and interesting animation of the film that children will like this film. 

 

My film title will be called Adventures of Lucy Lilac with fancy typography fonts to make it thrilling and exciting for the audiences in the purple and violet coloured font to make them bright and colourful that matches to the main character called Lucy Lilac. I will insert my own 3D (computer animated) characters and background of the forest with rainbow and natural insects such as butterflies and moths to make it pretty and attractive to the audiences whose interests adventure film genre while I adding my own film title which is very fancy with capital letters and bold to make the font stand out the texts. For the texts, I will insert on the poster with a tagline "Story of her lives and she is a perfect hero." and the release date to persuade the audience to watch the film on an actual date. 

 

For my products, I will insert my own characters and bright and colourful background that matches to the main character in 2D version of the film on limited edition breakfast cereal, Happy Meal and Lightbody celebration cake boxes with little activity to play to the children with word-search or maze to make them happier for the activities while I am taking my time to sketch and create my own final experiment as part of my topic. For the reverse of the limited edition breakfast cereal, I will insert a door sign to cut out and hang it on the bedroom door handle or activity to play aimed for children within the film while I am taking my time to design my own activity and cut-out door sign before I choose door sign for the reverse of the limited edition breakfast cereal with a tagline "Do Not Disturb" is used for bedtime because it is a most creative sign to hang it on their bedroom door as decoration so they can use the door sign to have a good night sleep during bedtime.

 

For the front of limited edition breakfast cereal, I will insert crispy pillow shells and open the white chocolate is middle of each pillow shell with bowl of milk to shows the cereal is delightful and delicious product to my target audience who like this cereal while I am insert a main character and background with details of this product. 

 

For Lightbody celebration cake box, I will insert a main character in 2D version of the film on the packaging with colourful background and images of butterflies and months to make the packaging attractive to the target audience is girls aged 3-11 years of age. I will taking my time to design my own Lightbody packaging by sketching and adding colours and texts on the program to make my packaging effectively for my final experiment.

In this lesson, I made my own surveys for people doing the questionnaires as part of my FMP topic. I gave people out the surveys to answer the questions about our favourite children's films and promotions during my lessons with my class and other classes to fill the questionnaires.

 

The least popular of the survey chart is Limited Edition Cereal because 2 students picked the question about Limited Edition cereal. The most popular of the survey chart is Favourite Movie Character because loads of students filled out the questionnaires as our favourite films.
